So, as a man who does not get along with things that grow I find this hop growing to be thoroughly frustrating. I have confirmed a small shoot coming from the rhizome this weekend but the whole process of getting the little guy to start growing was long and honestly I had given up on my little magnum. Once there is more than a picture of a pot with dirt I will post pictures of my beautiful child but until then… back to the beer.
With mothers day coming up I brewed my mom her favorite beer that I did last year, the Honey Hibiscus Wit. Still a crow pleaser and it made my condo smell spectacular! Next on the plate is a Southern American Brown ale (I am a sucker for malty beers) and I am reading up on water modification to see if i can make it even sweeter. My southern California water is a tab bit too full of sulfates to brew non bitters. High sulfates will promote bittering better which might explain why southern California makes such great west coast IPA’s but when it comes to browns… its less than optimal. I recommend reading up on water and brewing, it will change your perspective massively!
I ordered my next line of fermentables now that I have a nice batch of kefir fermenting, I am switching over to Kombucha to make a little sour tea. I will post an article about both very soon.
Happy Brewing!
