After a couple of years of being pretty serious about beer, off and on home-brewing and getting really into it (addicted really) recently this year; it is always nice to be able to push myself further. In this case I attended my first meeting of QUAFF: Quality Ale and Fermentation Fraternity a San Diego, CA based brewing club. I was invited by a friend to check the meeting out and I was seriously thrilled to be there. I plan on attending next month and becoming a member. It is one thing to brew and drink but there is something special to be said about collaborating with others in person or just having an activity to look forward to!
The highlight of my evening last night was being able to sample (I know I am late to the party) my first sour beer… LOVED it. I had New Belgium La Folie Sour Brown ale. New Belgium La Folie This little puppy was delightful, it had a crisp flavor with a nice sour run across the tongue and a nice snap finish with an aftertaste similar to limes or sour patch kids.
That all being said I hope to show the end results of my homemade wort chiller either this weekend or next week! I am going to brew myself a nice simple Heffeweizen and use it as my simple summer drink. More to come soon enough, but I wanted to say Happy Homebrew Wednesday to everyone and hopefully you will see another post as I open some new bottles tonight 😉
