Brew Wednesday’s

Opened up one of the English Brown ales tonight with some friends as we wait here for brewing time. The brew has come down a bit in sweetness, lost some of the yeast taste and really mellowed out in a good way.  Not much of a head on it but thats ok.  My efforts with the Porter to equalize the carbonation might come in handy but I’m thinking this wont be as bad as the Pale ale was. Either way I am thrilled how its improving with more time in the bottle and that’s the real win in this situation.

We also opened a few bottles to try out some craft beer (It is Brew Wednesday afterall). My friend Matt took in some nice IPA from Karl Strauss which is a nice smooth bitter beer, Leah took a right turn from bitter to sweet in the form of a very unique Wells Banana Bread Beer (I had a sip of that one and man what a smell it has, like laffy taffy and beer combined). I took a trip down Trappistes with their Rochefort 8 which was like beer whiskey, very bourbon flavored with a hit of about 9% alc.

Then I cranked down and laid in the grass of Germany via a Weihenstephaner Kristall Weissenbier, strong hints of spice like nutmeg which was overwhelming at first to be honest and held a very strong flavor chilled. Not surprising though was how it really opened up as it got warmer. I recommend this beer lightly chilled if not room temp.
